This 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu convertible has been refurbished in 2017. The car is finished in silver with black painted stripes over black upholstery, and power comes from a replacement 454ci V8. Work later on has included installing a custom-built 4L65e four-speed automatic transmission that is controlled by a Compushift Sport TCM, an Eaton Truetrac limited-slip differential with 3.55:1 gears, an HEI distributor, an Edelbrock electric choke carburetor, and replacement electric cooling fans. The car is also equipped with a high-capacity aluminum radiator, Hedman Hedders long-tube headers, a MagnaFlow dual exhaust system with an x-pipe, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, power-assisted steering, a power-operated black soft top, a cowl induction hood, Quik Latch hood pins, and 18″ Ridler wheels as well as custom front sport seats, Classic Auto Air climate control, a tilt steering column, Classic Instruments gauges, and an Alpine head unit.
The car has been repainted in its current silver with black stripes during the 2017 refurbishment. Features include SS badging, dual side-view mirrors, and a cowl induction hood with Quik Latch hood pins. H4 headlights were installed in 2021.
The power-operated black soft top can be seen up close in the gallery below. The 18″ Ridler wheels are mounted with 245/45 front and 295/40 rear Nitto NT555 G2 tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering, and a replacement steering gearbox and coupler were installed along with replacement Bilstein B6 shocks. Wilwood six- and four-piston brake calipers are fitted over drilled and slotted rotors.
The cabin features bolstered aftermarket seats trimmed in black along with a matching rear bench, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a Classic Auto Air climate control system, a center console, manual-crank windows, lap belts, Chevelle SS-branded floor mats, and an Alpine head unit with Bluetooth connectivity. An ignition kill switch and radiator fan override switch were installed in 2021.
The four-spoke steering wheel was mounted on the tilting steering column under current ownership ahead of Classic Instruments gauges including a 160-mph speedometer and a 10k-rpm tachometer.
The 454ci V8 features a K&N air cleaner, Hedman Hedders long-tube headers, and finned Chevrolet-branded valve covers. A Summit Racing HEI distributor was installed in 2022 along with an Edelbrock electric choke carburetor, and replacement electric radiator cooling fans were installed in 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a replacement 4L65e four-speed automatic transmission that is controlled by a Compushift Sport TCM as well as a rear end that features a Eaton TrueTrac limited-slip differential, 3.55:1 gears, and Strange Engineering axle shafts. A dual-exit exhaust system is also fitted.
