This 1968 Oldsmobile 442 is one of approximately 5,142 convertible examples produced for the model year, and is one of just 170 equipped with the W-30 package. Finished in turquoise over black vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 400ci V8 mated to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear end. Additional equipment includes a power-operated black convertible top, 14″ Super Stock wheels, dual air induction scoops, red fender liners, a Hurst shifter, Rally Pac instrumentation, and a Sony CD stereo. Service performed in 2019 involved replacing the fuel lines, wheel cylinders, and rear brake lines. Additional work completed in preparation for sale involved rebuilding the carburetor and replacing the mechanical fuel pump, front crankshaft seal, oil filter housing, and water pump.
The car left the factory finished in Ocean Turquoise (K) and was refinished in its current shade of turquoise. White stripes as well as W-30 and 442 badging are located on the front fenders, while air induction vents are mounted below the front bumper. Further exterior details include a replacement power-operated black convertible top, a vented hood, a remote-controlled left mirror, quad headlights, bright trim, and polished dual exhaust finishers. The removed antenna is included in the sale.
Super Stock 14″ wheels feature Oldsmobile-branded center caps and are mounted with Goodyear Polyglas red-line tires, while a full-size spare is housed in the trunk compartment. The shocks and springs have been replaced and the wheel cylinders and rear brake lines were replaced in October 2019. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes.
The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl with patterned inserts that extend to the door and rear quarter panels. Polished trim adorns the black dashboard, and additional appointments include a heater/defroster, a Hurst shifter, lap belts, Oldsmobile-branded rubber floor mats, a factory push-button AM radio, and a Sony CD stereo stored in the lockable glovebox.
The 400ci V8 has been overhauled in 2019 and the radiator was re-cored at that time. W-30 option cars were equipped with Ram Air intake hoses leading from a chrome-topped dual snorkel black air cleaner to under-bumper air scoops. The fuel lines were replaced in July 2019, and the red fender liners were replaced in February 2020. Service in November 2023 included rebuilding the carburetor, changing the oil, and replacing the mechanical fuel pump, front crankshaft seal, oil filter housing, water pump, and balancer.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Muncie four-speed close-ratio manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear end. Various transmission seals and gaskets were replaced in November 2019.
